The German Winster Violin Company is located in Mitenwald, Bavaria, Germany. It was formerly one of the Katz family violin workshops and was later acquired by a German violinist. The various violin products of the Katz family were already well-known worldwide in the mid-19th century. This also gives Mitenwald, a small town located in the valley of the Isar River with typical Alpine characteristics, the reputation of being the "hometown of German violin manufacturing".
